Matthew Zumwalt
This crazy redhead from Minnesota is the reason MediaShelf came into being.
Constantly brimming with madcap ideas tempered by a keen eye for organizational development, Matt is the technical lead on the Hydra Project which involves many institutions across the US and Europe. In the past few years, while working towards creating the Hydra framework, Matt created both ActiveFedora and Opinionated Metadata (OM) while also serving as one of the primary creative forces behind Solrizer.
Matt is a true polymath. A gifted, exceptionally talented individual who puts his immense talents to work in numerous ways. He is that rare combination of creative spirit and dedicated craftsman, which shows in his breadth of vision and his ability to turn that vision into reality.
Beyond the land of digital repositories, Matt is a vocal fan of the performing arts and an enthusiastic supporter of local, collaborative, creative culture. Meanwhile, his true passion lies in meditation & classical Buddhist philosophy, which he has studied within the Tibetan tradition for over 13 years. As a result of these interests, Matt has become the youngest board member of the Schubert Club (est. 1882) and is an active member of Tergar International.
Matt has a MSc in Electrical Engineering & Audio Technology from University of York, UK and a BA in Comparative Religion from University of Washington, Seattle.
