Onkyo HT-S3700 is an update for Onkyo HT-S3500. Now, with the extreme similarities and identicality explained, you certainly want to know about the differences between the two models. Is Onkyo HT-S3700 really better than Onkyo HT-S3500? We will see below!
Design
Both Onkyo HT-S3500 and Onkyo HT-S3700 are still 5.1-channel home theater systems, which means that the receiver delivers a total of six output to external speakers, five to the satellite speakers and one to the subwoofer speaker. The design of the two systems is still the same. One of the satellite speakers is meant to be placed at the center, together with the subwoofer, while the other four are placed to surround the room.
Connectivity
Besides having the usual connection ports, both Onkyo HT-S3500 and Onkyo HT-S3700 are armed with Bluetooth for easy, quick, and practical wireless connectivity with your smart TV, computer, or even mobile gadget. Both models also come with a USB port for connecting to a mass storage.
Howsoever, Onkyo HT-S3700 is indeed an improvement from Onkyo HT-S3500. While Onkyo HT-S3500 already comes with 4 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output, the manufacturer may have considered the configuration insufficient, as Onkyo HT-S3700 now comes with 6 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output, complete with the support for 4K/60Hz Ultra HD entertainment. There is also Zone 2 line-out for distributed audio playback, in case that you wish to build a multi-room system. Last but not least, you should be aware that Onkyo HT-S3500 does not support MP3 yet. The issue is addressed with Onkyo HT-S3700, which supports MP3.
Performance
The output power of the two systems is similar as well. The maximum output power is 110 W/Ch, certainly sufficient to fill even a large-sized room and immerse you in a truly realistic audio experience. However, while Onkyo HT-S3500 still relies on DTS, Onkyo HT-S3700 boasts the newer Dolby Atmos surround capability, offering an improved surround performance.
